Annual Local History and Genealogy Program Showcase

Our annual Program Showcase will be held at the SCLS on Thursday, April 25 from 9:30 AM to 12:00 Noon. Local history and genealogy programmers will each give a 10 to 15 minute presentation on their programs and be available for questions before and after to answer questions and book programs for those interested. Refreshments will be served from 9:30 AM and through the presentations, which will begin at 10:00 AM. Come join us and discover some great new programs for your library.

Minutes for March 21, 2013

The Long Island History Committee held its meeting this month at Brookhaven Town Hall. Barbara Russell, Brookhaven Town Historian, hosted the meeting and gave us a comprehensive tour of the facilities archives. After the tour, Barbara allowed us to use her office to conduct the Committee’s meeting.
Diane Holliday was unable to attend, but asked Inez Foster to pass on word about the Idle Hour Mansion Exhibit, which was being held at Brookwood Hall until June 16. She also asked to extend an invitation to Committee members for an opening reception that was being held at the Islip Art Museum Tuesday night, March 21 from 5 to 7 PM.
We also discussed future meetings, including the Local History and Genealogy Program Showcase, which will be held on Thursday, April 25 from 9:30 to 10:00 AM at SCLS; the Annual trip, which we hope to hold on Thursday, May 16; and our September meeting, which will be held on Thursday, September 19. One suggestion for the trip was the Culpepper Spy Museum.
It was also suggested that we might want to go to the Suffolk County Historical Society.
We also discussed the low attendance at meetings and wondered whether a change of day or time might be helpful, though most agreed that tight library schedules were the biggest problems. It was agreed that mornings were probably better than afternoons.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 11:15 AM.
